I AM ALIVE

You're having a shitty day. One bad thing seems to lead into an entire mountain of bad things: you stub your toe, you can't find your car keys, your hair is frizzy, your mom is sick, you are sick, your kids tell you you're mean, your credit card is declined, you can't stop crying, you get a parking ticket, you burn dinner, your cat throws up on the rug, you get a paper cut, you can't stop eating sugar.

But you realize.

I am alive.

And I choose to look at all of the bad things in a different way.

  • I get to feel the pain from stubbing my toe.

  • Instead of driving to the store, I went for a walk and when I put my hands in my coat pocket, there were my keys.

  • I am grateful I have hair that gets to be frizzy.

  • My mom is sick, so I spent more time talking to her and sending her pictures of flowers. I felt more connected to her today than I had in a while.

  • I am sick, but I am not dying. It is just an annoying sinus cold and I am thankful it is minor.

  • I don't take what my kids say to me personally. I empathize and remind them I love them and I remind myself how grateful I am to be their mom.

  • I am lucky I can cry. I am lucky I feel safe enough to let the tears flow.

  • It is just a parking ticket. I will pay it. It will all be okay.

  • Dinner sucked anyway. Cereal for the win! Now my kids don't think I am mean anymore. :)

  • At least the cat didn't throw up in our cereal.

  • I am lucky I can feel the paper cut. And I know how quickly it will heal.

  • Tomorrow I will not eat so many sweets.

I am lucky to be alive.

I AM ALIVE.
